Pastoral Care & Counseling

Did you know that pastors and ministry leaders have some of the highest rates of burnout? That’s partly because they constantly care for others in their organizations and ministries, can feel isolated in their calling, and often have no one to turn to in the midst of their struggles. These two organizations below are amazing resources for those in ministry leadership.

ServingLeaders Ministries

I am on the Board of an organization called ServingLeaders Ministries. ServingLeaders exists to revive, restore, and resource ministry leaders and their families by impacting the world, enabling them to pursue health and flourishing in their calling.

ChosenRebel’s Blog

This is a blog for ministry leaders that cover topics related to pastoral leadership, including recommendations for great books and resources and access to mentor groups.

The Importance of Community

The first and best place to come & see who Jesus is and what His Kingdom mission is all about is to regularly connect with a local church family. You will grow best as a follower of Jesus when you gather together and share community with others who love Jesus and are seeking to walk faithfully with Him in trust and obedience. Becoming a part of a local church family will help you learn more of God's Word (the Bible) and how it applies to your life.

Your church family will encourage you and give you opportunities to live out your new life in Christ. And, your church family will encourage you to take opportunities to share the gospel with others who have yet to come to know Christ. Below are three examples of churches I would recommend to anyone who is seeking a church family to do life with. There are others. If you need help finding a church family to live out your new life in Christ with, please ask and I will be very glad to help you.

Citylight Church

Everything we are and do is empowered by the gospel. The gospel is the great news that God is forgiving and adopting sinners as his very own children through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Citylight is rooted in the Gospel, the good news, of Jesus Christ. When the Gospel captures someone’s heart, the inevitable result is that they follow Jesus as his disciple. We exist to share God's love with the city and community around us, and the world beyond it. We want to make disciples of Jesus to the glory of God.

Long-Term (2+ years) Missionary Opportunities

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

God’s plan from the beginning has always been to reach the whole world. Long-term missionaries, both domestic and abroad, engage with a local culture that is different than their own. They understand and adapt to the other culture, and further the Kingdom through long-term relational engagement. If you feel you might be called to serve in this capacity, below are some organizations in which you might consider to invest your life (or a season of your life) to further the Gospel.

Cru Missions

Depending on your skills, interests and ministry needs, you'll find a range of Cru ministries and locations – in the U.S. and around the world – where you can serve, with each focusing on different areas of life and groups of people. You can work on the field, in an office support role, or some combination of both.

Wycliffe

For more than 70 years, Wycliffe has helped people around the world translate the Bible into their own languages. You'll make an eternal impact when you serve with local churches connecting communities to the life-transforming power of Scripture in a language that touches their hearts.

GoCorps

GoCorps believes 20-somethings are uniquely equipped with flexibility, energy and skills to bridge the gap in the missions landscape. Finding and placing these “Goers” is the passion of GoCorps. They help Christians invest the first two years of their career in global service.
